10 reasons why you need a coach as a marketer

September 2, 2020

Over the recent years, coaching has become more and more popular among different industries and professions. The key thing here is to note that a coach is not a consultant or a counselor who advises you on what you should do and how you should live your life or do your job. On the contrary, a coach is more of a guide, helping you navigate confusing times and bringing the outside perspective to your inner monologue. If you’ve been curious about what a coach could do for you as a marketer and what the main benefits of coaching are, then watch the recording of our latest Powerful Marketer Talks webinar (find the video at the end of the post) or keep on reading for the key takeaways!

1. Having accountability

How often have you promised yourself something crazy like ‘I will start working out every single day!’ or ‘I will start waking up at 5am!’, and then you do it for a while, and then things get tough and you give up. And you think ‘no harm done, nobody knows about it anyway’. Well, your coach will make sure that you won’t self-sabotage.

The whole coaching process begins by determining the most important goals for you and then breaking them down into smaller achievable activities. Your coach will check in with you regularly to make sure that you have completed all the activities as planned. And even if you don’t feel like doing something that you have promised to do, then knowing that you have a call with your coach the next day will push you to do what you need to do. So, if you know what needs to be done, but you also know that you are not that strong in self-motivating, then a coach can really help you in this area.

2. Finding clarity

What if you don’t know what you want to achieve in your life or at work? What if you feel stuck and don’t even know what your goals should be? Well, this is again a place for your coach to step in, to help you navigate what matters to you most, what are your priorities, what makes you happy, what fulfills you and what would be reasonable goals for you to strive for. As an objective person in your life, your coach can push you to start thinking outside of your comfort zone, to start focusing on what really matters the most to you and to brainstorm with you on how you could make your dreams a reality.

3. Focusing on growth

Whether it’s new knowledge or skills or habits, being coached really pushes you to grow. What you need to learn and why you need to learn will become clear to you once you’re in the process. Most often it’s something that deep down you’ve always wanted to do but have been too afraid, for example learning how to become a leader, or a great networker, or a public speaker. Your coach will help you create a plan to get there and may even gently push you to do the things you don’t really want to do, but deep down know that you need to do.

4. Making progress

You know that you want MORE from life and you may even have an idea of how to move towards that reality but weeks and months pass and you still feel like you are in the same place. The desire for perfectionism can truly hinder your progress. But your coach will really challenge that belief because progress is always more important than perfectionism. And even if you don’t get to 100% like envisioned, you may get to 80%, which is still 80% more than when you first started!

5. Accomplishing your goals

If you want to see your short- and long-term dreams become a reality then you need to start working towards them. Your coach will support you on your journey and will not allow you to quit when you face setbacks. Your goal can be to lose 10 kilos or to write a book or to run a half-marathon or to become an entrepreneur. Whatever it is, with the right KPI-s (key performance indicators), it’s easy to track your progress and feel a real sense of accomplishment.

6. Building confidence

You don’t have to accept your lack of confidence, nor do you need to hide behind it. It’s difficult but it is possible to build your confidence and having a supportive coach throughout this process is one of the keys. Your confidence will grow when you push yourself to do the things you are afraid of, when you see your progress and your accomplishments. And if you are not used to praising yourself for your effort, then your coach will make you notice your growth.

7. Working on self-love

We are so used to praising everybody else around us but not ourselves. However, you are the most important person of your life and you owe it to yourself to bring your best effort. Your coach will help you to figure out who you are and why you are this way, what are your strengths and passions. What makes you YOU and why it is important to celebrate that. Throughout the whole coaching process you will be in the center stage. You will be under the spotlight. And whether you like it or not, you need to focus on you. Only by that can you become a better spouse, parent, friend, colleague, and a person in general.

8. Overcoming obstacles

There’s always something holding us back. A self-destructive habit. Unsupportive environment. Lack of guidance. Whatever the obstacle, most likely there is a way to move past that. However, it can be extremely hard to envision this way if you’ve been stuck in the same place for a long time. Your coach can really step in and guide you to find ways to overcome your obstacles. So, ask yourself, do you know what it is that is holding you back right now? Do you know how to move past that on your own or do you need a little bit of outside help?

9. Challenging yourself

We tend to get very comfortable in our lives and accept everything around us as inevitability. However, your coach will challenge you to expand your comfort zone. Challenges always help you to grow and improve and while it may be scary to jump into the unknown, then you never know what amazing things you could find if you only dared to do it. So, if you want to make your life a bit more exciting, then fear not, your coach will push you to do it. But only if your coach believes that you are indeed ready for that challenge.

10. Becoming a great leader

Little by little, as you expand your comfort zone and overcome your obstacles, great things will start happening in your life. And that’s because you’ll learn to be the leader of your life. By signing up to our coaching program, you are proving first and foremost to yourself that you are ready to take responsibility for your life, for your decisions and for your results. And by becoming a great leader to yourself, you will expand that to everybody else around you, inspiring them and pushing them to become better as well!
